Cost Assignments
Allocate budgeted cost to activities, WBS elements or the project, and track it from planned through committed to paid.
Who it is for. Cost engineers and project accountants who need budget tied to schedule objects rather than to a spreadsheet row.
What it is for
A budget line that is not attached to a schedule object cannot be time-phased, cannot be earned, and cannot be reported by WBS. This attaches each cost line to an activity or WBS element, prices it as quantity times unit rate, and carries a commitment status.
The estimate-to-budget push is the defensible part: the budget is generated from the estimate rather than re-entered, and re-pushing is idempotent. P6 requires the budget to be loaded separately from wherever it was estimated.
