Cost Types
A project’s own cost-code library, seeded from a shared global library so every project reports against the same chart of accounts.
Who it is for. Small teams and enterprise PMOs. A solo planner can skip it; the value appears the moment two projects need to report against the same cost codes.
What it is for
Cost codes get retyped per project, so the same category ends up spelled three ways and portfolio reporting becomes impossible. This is a project-scoped cost-type list you populate by importing from the global library, with delete protection so you cannot pull a code out from under the assignments using it.
What it does

Import from the global library
Pick rows from the shared library; anything already present is shown as added and cannot be selected twice.
Delete is blocked while in use
A cost type still referenced by assignments cannot be deleted, and the message says why.
Usage count per code
Each type shows how many cost assignments reference it, so you can see what is actually being used.
Project and global scope, visibly distinguished
A scope badge separates project-specific types from ones that came from the global library.
Default rates flow onward
A cost type’s default rate pre-fills the unit rate when it is used on a new cost assignment.
