S-Curves
Baseline, planned and actual progress curves built from activity dates alone — no cost, no budgeted units, no resource data required.
Who it is for. Planners and consultants first: you can produce a client-ready progress curve from a schedule that has nothing loaded on it.
What it is for
Progress S-curves are normally gated on a resource- or cost-loaded schedule, which most schedules are not, so people rebuild them in Excel from a date export every month. This derives the curve from each leaf activity’s duration and measures actual against the planned total, so the actual line can legitimately sit below plan.
Producing a baseline, planned and actual progress curve with a data-date cut-off from a schedule carrying no cost or resource data at all. In P6 the equivalent normally needs a loaded schedule or an export to Excel.

A curve from dates alone
Cumulative percent complete derived purely from activity dates and durations. No cost, units or resource data needed.
Baseline, planned and actual
Three lanes, baseline drawn from each activity’s baselined dates so it is a real comparison rather than a copy of the plan.
Actual can sit below plan
Actual is measured against the planned total rather than against itself, so it is not forced to close at 100%.
An honest data date
The project data date is drawn as a labelled marker, and with forecast off the actual line stops at the cut-off instead of drawing a misleading flat plateau.
Summaries and milestones excluded
Weighting uses leaf activities only, so summary spans are not double-counted.
Filter to a WBS branch
A checkbox tree with subtree toggling, so the curve can cover a package rather than the whole job.
